Let me first just say that I know how incredibly convenient the baby food pouches are... we've used them a lot in the past. Plus, my son loved all the different flavors.
With that being said, they can get pretty pricey - up to $2 per pouch for your little one.
Tonight my son had salmon, strawberries, and avocado for cheaper than a pouch.
Here's how it breaks down:
1/3 pound of wild caught salmon from Whole Foods cost $4. He's a year old, so an ounce is a serving size. After removing the skin, I had about 4oz to work with. That's $1 per ounce.
The strawberries were $3.99. There were 23. I cut up a big one. That's $0.17.
The avocados I bought in a bundle from Trader Joe's for $3. There were 5 small ones. He had a quarter of one. That's $0.15.
That's a grand total of $1.32 for a much fresher meal (we still use pouches occasionally, that wasn't meant to be a dig at anyone who uses them!)
The best part was that he LOVED it!
